Conclusions:
Normal equatorial lens growth is the etiology of both the age-related decline in accommodative amplitude that results in the clinical manifestation of presbyopia in the fifth decade of life, and the age-related increase in intraocular pressure. Nuclear sclerosis is not the etiology of the age-related decline in accommodative amplitude that results in presbyopia.
