Results:
The study was composed by 100 patients, 46 males and 54 females, ranging from 39 to 88 years of age (mean of 68). A total of 189 eyes with pure nuclear opacity were included. Each group had a minimum of 28 eyes and a maximum of 33 eyes. It is seen an increase of density distribution among the groups 1 to 5. Group 6 showed lower mean values than 5, even though the median was higher. Such opposite result regarding groups 5 and 6 occurred because in some cases of group 6 the light device did not cross the lens nuclei properly so that the measures provided by the desitometric system were not reliable. No difference was found between groups 1 and 2, the same occurred in 2 and 3 and 5 and 6. The only group which was different from all the rest was group 4.
