Results:
There were no significant differences in the mean uncorrected and best corrected distance visual acuities between the multifocal and monofocal groups. Uncorrected near visual acuity was better in the multifocal group than in the monofocal group but uncorrected intermediate distance vision satisfaction was worse. 80.0% of patients in the multifocal group and 10% in the monofocal group never had to wear glasses. Quality of vision questionnaire showed better results with Acysof SA60AT IOL implantation: Moderate glare was reported by 15.0% in the multifocal group and 5.0% in the monofocal group. In the multifocal group, severe halos and moderate halos occurred in 5.0% of eyes and 40.0% of eyes, respectively. Humphrey perimetry testing showed more frequently depression in the far periphery in the multifocal IOL group but no specific pattern was recognized.
